Why Service The Cooling System?

Your vehicle’s engine is equipped with a cooling system to protect it from the heat produced when you drive the vehicle. It also protects the engine from freezing during the winter, when the vehicle is not in use. The coolant has a finite life cycle, sooner or later it will “wear out”. In many cases it turns acidic which can cause major problems with cooling system components such as the radiator, water pump and other engine related parts. Poorly maintained cooling systems can lead to major repair bills down the road. To help ensure long life from your engine, have regular service and maintenance performed on the cooling system.

The Coolant Exchange Process

An exchange replaces up to 98% of your vehicles coolant. A conventional drain & fill, on average, only replaces 50%. A coolant machine is connected to your engine’s radiator hose. System capacity plus a little more is added to the machine. At this point, the exchanger begins to gently push the old coolant out into a recovery tank and begins adding fresh coolant in its place. As a last step the coolant overflow bottle is vacuumed out and filled with fresh coolant as per specification. Some the actual repair steps are as listed below.

Check for external leaks

Usual areas of leakage are intake manifolds, radiator seams, water pumps, freeze plugs and all hose connections.

Check condition of radiator hoses

In many cases radiator hoses wear from the inside out.

Check the radiator

This is the one component which can quickly diminish the efficiency and durability of the engine.

Check the cooling fan

Be sure the electric cooling fan operates properly.

Check the cap and belts

Check the radiator cap and drive belts.
